BKR BPM Detective (Android)
BKR BPM Detective
A rhythm tool that does four jobs. One spare Android phone.
Most metronome apps give you a click and a number. BKR BPM Detective gives you a complete rhythm workstation — tempo detection by ear, tap tempo, an accented metronome, and a full-screen visual beat display that locks to your DAW over Wi-Fi. It runs on the old Android sitting in your drawer, and turns it into dedicated studio hardware.
Hear the tempo. Tap the tempo. Drive the tempo.
Point the phone at a track and LIVE mode listens through the microphone, analyzing rhythmic onsets to lock onto the BPM in a few bars — no manual counting. Know the tempo already? TAP it in, and the reading feeds straight into the metronome. Then hit PLAY for an accented click with a distinct downbeat, in any time signature you set. Everything happens on the device, no network required.
A metronome a drummer can read from across the room
This is where BKR BPM Detective leaves other apps behind. Two full-screen visual modes, built for sightlines, not screens held close:
FLAG MODE splits the screen in two. The downbeat flashes green, the other beats flash white — instant attack, fast decay, maximum contrast. A drummer mid-kit or a bassist across the stage catches the count at a glance.
COUNTER MODE fills the screen with a giant 7-segment beat number. On the "1," the whole display inverts to a solid green field with the digit knocked out in black — so the top of every bar is unmistakable, even in your peripheral vision.
Lock it to your DAW — visually, with zero drift
Pair it with BKR MasterStreamer (VST3/AU on your master bus) and BKR BPM Detective receives your DAW's transport over Wi-Fi, mirroring the live tempo and time signature to the visual modes. Because the sync is visual only, there's no second click fighting your session audio — nothing to drift, nothing to phase. Tracking drums to a grid, cueing overdubs, conducting a room: the count is right there, frame-honest, on a screen anyone can see.
Built on the ZombiePhone FX idea
That dead phone in your drawer is a capable piece of studio gear waiting for a job. BKR BPM Detective gives it one. No new hardware, no cables, no subscription — just a dedicated rhythm display that lives on your desk, your drum riser, or taped to a mic stand.
